VTG Bohemian Cobalt Cut-to-Clear Crystal Platter Frosted Rosebuds Starburst 14x8

This stunning piece is a. Vintage Bohemia cut-to-clear crystal platter. Intaglio-etched rose and vine pattern. This style of glass, also known as overlay crystal, is created by layering vibrant cobalt blue glass over a base layer of clear lead crystal. Artisans manually grind through the colored top layer to reveal the clear, brilliant glass underneath.

The dish showcases a striking pattern of. Etched frosted roses and leaves. Starburst cuts and geometric star panels. A style typical of traditional Czech and German mid-century luxury crystal workshops.

That enhances its brilliance when catching the light. Authentic Bohemian lead crystal contains roughly 24% lead oxide, making pieces surprisingly heavy for their size. Pictures do not do it justice.

Please zoom in on photos for condition. EDITED TO ADD last 4 pictures showing air bubble within the glass and tiny chips on sawtooth edge VERY hard to see with the naked eye which is how I missed them. Clear lead crystal is layered with a thin outer coating of vibrant cobalt blue glass. A master artisan then carves away the blue layer using cutting wheels to expose the transparent crystal underneath.
