It is from the American brilliant period, (late 1800's to 1920 roughly) which is over 100 years old now! This piece is genuine american cut glass, it does fluoresce green in 365 blacklight. This is an amazing compote, unique in size and pattern. It is oversized and extremely thick with a thick stem and thick base.
It is incredibly Heavy and the lead content is high- I never suggest tapping old glass but if you do you can hear this baby ring like a bell! Tap at your own risk. While you may recognize the shape of the compote, you can see how much larger/ thicker it is than most. And the geometric pattern consist of 2 rows of large oval punties with a thick row of raised diamond in between. It has a bit of an anglo-irish look to it as the early geometrics were done like this before it was all pinwheels, flowers & hobstars!Condition: This is 100+ years old. But this one is considered in good condition for its age. I see no top rim chips, or unsightly wear that detracts from its beauty.. It does have the typical age scratches on the bottom of the base and those are common patina- serious collectors know the bottoms of large heavy pieces like this will be scratched if really genuine and old. Minor age scratches are common on base and typical patina- no one notices these.
Therefore it will be treated as such. I pack to survive, but if they break it I will need pictures to file the claim online. However, shippers do not just honor claims online anymore with the photo's only- now they tend to ask for an inspection of the item.
