This is an Antique Corset Flared Elegant shaped Vase. This is heavy & huge. Weighs 11 lbs, and the glass is thick, especially thick at that base. Measurements are 16-1/4" tall by 7-1/8" wide at top.
It is about 7-1/2 at the bottom half too. This is a big beautiful chunk of glass. We do not know which cutting house created this fabulous Butterfly & Floral design, though it can be found on other pieces like bowls and such too (though it is considered a pretty rare design). When you consider all of the butterfly designs cut back then, this one can be considered one of the better designs. Large Open wing design from a side view with lots of flashing and polished details on the body and wings noticed the extra flashing added to the wing edges and how many clear dots it took to accent.
The floral design is also unique and well done. Large satin finished Open roses and extra large closed buds that are crosshatch detailed, thorns all over the stems and the clear wedge leaves are detailed with satin slashes instead of being left blank. Very distinctive and unique design all around, this one is good in any collection.
I hold out hope that one day we will know the cutting house when new materials are found. If you like nice butterfly designs, this large impressive vase is a must have rarity. It is from the American brilliant period, (late 1800's to 1915). Which is a 100 years old now! Condition: This is a gorgeous, large & stately vase. It is clean and clear inside. Only 1 tooth on the rim with partial loss chip- I will mark it with a sticker, no one will ever notice this flaw. Body looks pretty good for 100 year old vase. The base is also good without damage, just the minor 100 year old scratches as to be expected. Please be sure you want this before making Best offers or purchasing.
