Mandruzzato was founded in 1956 on the island of Murano, Venice, Italy, by Luigi Mandruzzato. In 1965 Luigi was joined by his son, Gianfranco Mandruzzato, who took over the running of the company two years later.

At first the company made glass lighting fixtures, and then began producing ornaments, vases, ashtrays, etc. The firm is now run by Gianfranco's son Alessandro Mandruzzato, who was born in Venice in 1970.

At the age of 15 Alessandro started to follow in his fathers and grandfathers footsteps, applying himself to the ancient Muranese art techniques and working in the familys glass-bevelling workshop. The Mandruzzato family has lived and worked in Murano for three generations. Alessandros grandfather Luigi opened his workshop in 1934, in the same place as it is today, a location very dear to his heart as he had lived there before the workshop is built on the foundations of an old boarding school. Here, along with his son Gianfranco, he began developing new and experimental techniques.

Starting in 1956, thanks to an innovative marketing technique and experimental design, they captured the attention of the international artistic scene, participating in numerous events in Italy and abroad, working with artists of the caliber of Pablo Picasso. In 2000, Alessandro took on the management of the family workshop, giving life to the Alessandro Mandruzzato brand. He chooses to remain faithful to the ancient techniques of the islands glassmakers, while experimenting with many aspects of glass-bevelling techniques, pushing limits to its most extreme and avant-garde applications, giving life to exclusive art.

The island of Murano near Venice has been producing glass since the thirteenth century 1292. Having been banned from mainland Venice, for. Threat of fire hazard, the island.

First produced beads and mirrors, soon progressing to chandeliers and architectural stained glass for Italys hundreds of churches, chapels and basilicas. Soon they widened their output to include pressed glass, tableware and art glass.
